I'm thinking about adding a 1911 to my hand gun collection.
First off i'm not rolling in money,so the high priced spread is out of the question.
If you own a Tarus pt1911,RIA 1911 or Metro Arms 1911 please tell me about them, your likes, dislikes, what ammo feeds well and what doesn't.
Last week i was at my favorite toy store and fondeled a RIA 1911 Tac and it did feel damn good, seemed to point naturally and the slide was not too hard for my old hands to rack.
I need personal experience info from you who own them.
Thank you for any and all replys.
What's your price range . . . been seeing a lot of 1911's used and on consignment recently in my area.

You might wanna look at a Springfield Mil-Spec as well. Somebody was selling RIA for under $400 recently, I'm not to fond of the Armscor gus myself, the parts quality can be hit or miss

I know a bunch of guys who have Taurus 1911's that like them. I don't do 1911's with light rails though
Thanks for the heads up, my price range is $450-$500 out the door
I have 2 RIA's, one was the Gov't model that I used as a base to trick it out and the other is the tactical model. Both shoot very good and so far have fired, with no problems, everything I fed it including semi wadcutter reloads. I also have a Taurus PT1911 and I have had no problems with it either.

If you want more opinions you can go to http://www.m1911.org they have specific sections for specific brands.
Thats what i need to hear,Tarus and RIA,good guns that shoot with no or very little problems. In my research so far,it seems that the higher priced and tighter fitted guns require some work to make them work properly where as those that are a little loose from the mfg. do not seem to have those problems. When i pay for a gun I want it to be problem free. The 6 hand guns i own have been problem free from day one and I would like to keep it that way.
Thanks for your post.
Here are the pics of mine:

The Top one is the modified RIA Gov't model, the Middle is the RIA Tactical, the Lower is a Taurus PT1911.

I like the govt. model in the before pic,it reminds me of the Navy issue Colt45 my uncle carried in WW2. Is there any hammer bite in stock form?
PS. Outstanding 3some you have there.
I was never bit when i shot it before doing the mods (but I know where to place my hand Big_Grin_1.
(but i know where to place my hand) Something I too shall learn,I just hope not the hard way. I had a cz82 and I still have a Russian Mak[commercal mod.] and a Pa 63,all with standard tail and have not been bitten so i was just wondering about the 1911s.
This will be my last gun purchase for a while and i want to get it right the first time.
As you can tell,I don't want to have to polish this, that and the other thing to get a gun to operate properly,in this day and age one should not have to do this.

If that's the case, and you want a few bells and whistles, I'd look at the RIA tactical. In my picture it came with everything you see except for the grips (those are Hogues). I've had no problems with mine at all and it's about $50 or so more than the Gov't model.
redeye202, where are you located? If your regular FFL can't find one, tell them to try Southern Ohio Gun, it's down near Cincinnati and they seem to have them in stock all the time (both Gov't and Tactical).
I'm in NE Pa.,my local toy store has RIAs,Tarus and just about every new/old/used/abused/mainstream/odd guns there is to be had including ammo of the same variety. His prices are a bit high on some things but he has what you want, when you want it,plus he is a great guy to deal with.
Always good to have a good FFL close by that you can deal with.
I think a road trip,1.4 miles,is in order on Saturday and if i'm lucky i might be able to get a good deal on a RIA Tac.
Redeye try advanced arms in Pittston or Piestracks in Nanticoke.

Thanks,i just seen the post about the price at Advanced on the other forum. The mil-spec.at that price is about $400 OTD and $481 OTD for the Tac. I have to see what my dealer wants OTD for either one,i'm loyal to him because he does treat me right and if he can't meet or better another dealers offer he has no problem with me buying from another dealer.
hey, if you want to try shooting a Taurus PT1911, let me know. i have free time. Advanced Arms has great deals on what they have, especially if you pay in cash/debit; they charge a few bucks more for a credit card purchase. also, Gun Toters in Eynon has a good selection on 1911s, priced to go. i was looking at a Sig Sauer C3 (a compact 1911) the last time i was there; it was less than $800, which for that gun, is a steal.
Saw a gold cup at Piestracks yesterday. I did not take note of the price. There was another 1911 in the used case. I didn't even pay attention as to what name it was. I go there everyweek if you want me to watch out for something specific.
i love my 1911 pistol made by Springfield armory. ill never sell that gun. it never lets me down.
