Quote:HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Officials at the University of Alabama's Huntsville campus say three people have been killed and another injured in a campus shooting.

University spokesman Ray Garner says a woman is in custody but he could not identify her or any of the victims.

Trent Willis, chief of staff for Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle, says there are several other shooting injuries in addition to the four. He doesn't have an exact number.

Sophomore Erin Johnson tells The Huntsville Times a biology faculty meeting was under way when she heard screams coming from the room.

The shooting happened Friday afternoon in the university's Shelby Center, a science building. University police secured the building and students were cleared from it.

The Huntsville campus has about 7,500 students in northern Alabama, not far from the Tennessee line.

I'm sure this is an imaginary story since the university police "Safer Living Guide" spells out the university weapons policy:

Quote:WEAPONS POLICY ON CAMPUS —Illegal or unauthorized possession of firearms, ammunition, explosives, other weapons, or dangerous chemicals by students on University property is not allowed as indicated in the UA Student Code of Conduct. However, students who have sporting, hunting, recreational or target weapons for off campus use may bring the items to UAPD (New Hall) for registration and free storage. Students are asked to bring proper identification, pistol permit (if applicable), the unloaded weapon and ammunition in a secure storage container. The check-in service is available 24 hours a day.

Someday, the "leaders" in these institutions of higher education will come to the conclusion that school shootings are a modern phenomenon that have only increased as the schools become more "gun free."
When college presidents or deans start getting shot maybe things will change. My youngest daughter will be starting college in the fall and she will always be able to defend herself no matter what the hand book says.
This story was in the Erie Times News. Here is the Story as published by the Asssociated Press: http://hosted2.ap.org/PAERI/33e9b34a8efc...d69e2cfc86

It was a college Professor that is responsble for the shootings...
The point still is that had other people in that room been armed the out come would have been different, maybe less dead and less wounded.
Agreed RedEye202. Just another reason people need to realize that it is their responsibility to protect themselves. Only "Law Abiding Citizens" follow the Laws/Rules..
We gun owners follow and abide by the law most of the time, then we become lawbreakers to be able to protect ourselfs when we carry in college or in malls or other places that do not allow carry. To me having to sneak a firearm into such places does not sit well with me.
You aren't breaking a law. You are breaking a policy. There's a definite legal difference, and it is also an ethical quandary. Do you abide by the wishes of the owner or do you protect yourself?

The more I read about the 'Bama shooting, the more I think that self-preservation is paramount.

The shooter's gun jammed, so they rushed her and got her out of the room. They shut the door and put a table against it. Then they waited for her to return and kill the rest of them. No one had any protection. For whatever reason, the shooter didn't return to the lounge. Sheer providence saved the rest of the faculty that day.

Would you want to be in that room and hope for the best? Or would you want a chance to save yourself and your friends/colleagues? That's your personal call.

(On a side note, a university police officer just walked by me at the library. I saw he had a Sig Sauer. I have no idea if any of the students around me are armed. This school recently changed their policy to strictly anti-gun.)
They should have rushed her then beat the living sh*t out of her.
Why in god's name would you push her out of the room?
