Like this one from Hunter's Joy... you can actually see the thumb break. I kinda like the looks of the nylon...it doesnt scream "is that a real gun"? Tongue ...and that is currently what i have...

Well if ur carrying a Blue Gun of a Taurus 24/7 pro then its not a real gun Tongue lol

Seriously though, It doesn't look like a bad holster. As long as they used a good quality thread for the stitching it should stay on your belt with your gun safely inside it where it belongs.
I personally don't like nylon holsters, I don't like the look and I feel more secure with a custom holster molded to the guns form but there's definitely nothing wrong with them. Like with anything, some are good and some aren't and the only person who can decide if its good enough for your purposes is you.

Leather + water + pressure = custom molded to the gun lol

Depending on the gun i might go with leather, but I don't like thumb breaks so i'm not likely to have leather anytime soon.

Desantis make a speed scabbard. Molded leather no thumb break.

Lack of active retention device means it would only be for CC for me and I already have a holster for that. I know, im a tough customer lol. I'll probably be sticking to kydex and carbon fiber holsters for quite some time. Leather looks nice, but I haven't seen many leather holsters that have active retention other than a thumb break and look good.

MJ, I'm thinking about ordering a CTAC for the times I'd rather conceal, it looks like a winner from the pictures you posted... Do you recommend it? My only concern is that it doesn't look like it protects from perspiration too much... Is that a false impression?

Thanks Smile

Persperation hasn't been an issue for me at all. If you're concerned about the plastic/kydex making you sweat just add some moleskin (adhesive backed felt) to the holster. Comp-Tac also makes the MTAC which is similar to the CrossBreed Supertuck but uses changeable kydex bodies on the leather backer so it can be used for multiple guns. Here's a pic of my CTAC from the back, the slide is almost completely covered by the holster which protects it from sweat AND covers the safety so it doesn't accidentally get switched off if it rubs up against you.

Ahhh ok, from the other side it looks like the kydex stops around the breech, I didn't realize it goes all the way up the slide. I'll definitely have to look into that. How much was yours?

I paid $75 for mine in feb/march 2007, they've gone up to $80 since then. The MTAC is on sale right now for $80 so if you prefer the leather/kydex hybrid and/or the interchangeability i'd dive on that. If they made the MTAC for my gun I'd have bought one by now. http://www.comp-tac.com

RE: Holsters
I've heard the leather/kydex hybrid has retention issues over time because the leather softens up a bit and you have to keep tightening the retention screws as time goes on. Eventually you're at the end of the thread and can't tighten anymore... I'll have to see if I can find more MTAC vs. CTAC comparison reviews before I decide.

RE: Holsters
Remember, with IWB holsters your belt provides retention as well by pressing the holster against the body, so the softening of the leather would only be an issue when you weren't wearing it.

That's a good point, which for some reason didn't really cross my mind. I must need a nap ;P

I think I'll order the MTAC today then. Thanks for the input, MJ

I've got the MTAC for my XDm and I love it. No complaints here. To me it doesn't seem like tension will be an issue in the future.

Enjoy! Banana

RE: Holsters
You've most welcome. There's alot of comparison threads out there on other forums, and in most of them that i scanned through when considering whether to stick with a CTAC or get an MTAC for my next gun (whenever that is) it was a pretty even split on preference, but most people that had both preferred the MTAC bc of the leather making it more comfortable and stable.

I wound up getting a Pro-tech...Intimidator...but i'm a little confused...

The top of the clip is below the "center of gravity" of the pistol...which causes the rig to stick out from the body at what i find to be an awkward angle. I can almost fit 4 fingers betwn my body and the butt. I'm used to a IWB holster so maybe i'm just not getting something...

To start, I'd recommend not using the clip for OWB wear. You should be able to slide your belt behind the nylon on the holster. I had an uncle mikes that was identical to that at one point and the clip is intended for IWB wear. I didn't like the holster for IWB or OWB, for me it was badly shaped for either one.

Even with the belt through the nylon it'll probably stick out at an awkward angle bc of the location of the clip/loop but it should ride a little better. You may want to attach the clip to your pants AND run your belt through the nylon loop. It might help.

RE: Holsters
Got my MTAC yesterday Smile I have to say, Comp-Tac's customer service is incredible. I ordered mine on 6/4, it went to shipping on 6/10 at which point i realized their had been a mixup with the electronic cart and I ended up with the wrong model. I called customer service on the 10th, got it switched and they had the new one in shipping by 6/12. Very impressed with their customer service.

As for the holster itself, I haven't gotten to play with it much, but i did try it out for a little bit and it's damn comfortable. To hopefully save myself some time tweaking it, for you guys that use the MTAC/CTAC, what clock position, cant and vertical position work for you?

Glad that you like it. I wear my MTAC at 9:00-9:30 position with a strong backward cant for cross-draw. I adjust the height so it sits pretty low. This carry style is the most comfortable for me, especially while sitting and driving. Without discussing the merits of cross-draw carry further, all that I will say is that it works best for me. See what you like and go from there. Experiment. It could take a while before you find what you really like.
Did they throw in a roll of smarties?

RE: Holsters
Haha yeah, there was a roll of smarties. I was considering cross draw as well, based on its own merits, but I'm leaning even more towards it now.

With my fobus paddle holster, I was most comfortable around 4:00, could get to my pockets fairly well, wasn't too terrible while I was driving or sitting, etc. However, the MTAC at 4:00 has an annoying habit of pressing outwards against the top of my back pocket, thus making it awkward to get my wallet out. It's not that big of an inconvenience for me, and I know most people would think nothing of it, but what's the point of concealing if I have tells that I am? I also felt like the butt was printing way too much at 4:00 Sad Unfortunately, I'm a pretty lean guy, so it seems like it's going to be a challenge to find a way to CC that offers comfortability and effectiveness =/

I'll play around with 9:00-9:30 and let you know how it goes Smile
