RE: Holsters
Surprisingly, I have found that the butt of my pistol doesn't print too badly in the cross-draw position. I put a T-shirt over it, and usually drape a plaid overshirt open over that. It's hidden. This is the best solution that I use to conceal using the MTAC.

When I carry OWB with the Blackhawk Serpa I have a similar problem... accessing my left front jeans pocket. I just try to not carry anything important in that pocket. At that point I'm not trying to conceal anyway so printing doesn't matter. I usually carry that more to the front at around 10:00. Ideally, I would like to OC using a leather holster at 10:30 (or maybe later) with a very strong backward cant. I can't do this with the Serpa because the paddle will dig into my left leg when I sit, and with the belt attachment it isn't canted strong enough. I tried using the Comp-Tac Paddle holster but it doesn't work for me. It rides low and away from the body. Just not my cup of tea. I may sell it to a friend since it is just collecting dust. So far, my XDm is the only gun that I open carry because of the holsters I have. The next holster on the list is a leather cross-draw holster for the compact 1911s. I just don't feel right putting them in kydex. I don't care about the finish on the XD. I bought it to beat it up.

RE: Holsters
So, I played around with the MTAC last night, trying to get a mix of comfort and concealability. I can't seem to get a cant on the MTAC that will work with the 9:00-9:30 crossdraw position. . . it's too close to vertical and the draw is very awkward. Besides that, I can't really get used to the fit =/

So, after fiddling around for a while, I found that small of the back seems to be the best fit for me, it's very comfortable, and the holster and gun melt into my clothes. Even my girlfriend didn't realize I was carrying until she actually felt it by chance.

Now, the only problem with this is my MTAC is righty, and for small of the back, I'd need a lefty =/ Any ideas, other than purchasing a lefty MTAC?

Sorry for a slow response. I suppose buying a lefty MTAC holster would do the trick. I have never been able to carry a gun in the small of my back comfortably. It always gets to me while I sit down, and I find it impossible to draw while seated, especially in the car. Like I said, if it works for you, do it! But make sure to practice your draw as to not sweep yourself during.

Maybe if you adjust the cant to a severe forward angle (like if it were on your right hip) the draw would be easier. Besides that I'm out of ideas. What gun are you carrying in this holster?

If you want to carry in the small of the back position, and are considering buying another MTAC holster, why not look at a dedicated small of the back holster? I'm sure some manufacturers make these, just like they make dedicated cross-draw holsters. If you're going to buy another holster anyway... why not get something else? You might love it. The MTAC covers a lot of ground, but it's not the final word in holsters. I would consider the MTAC a less expensive version of a nice custom holster like the Sparks VM2 or the like, where the real benefit is not waiting 8 months to get it.

RE: Holsters
I'll second that. The MTAC/CTAC/Etc are designed for strongside carry primarily, though they'll function in other positions. I'd definitely look at SOB specific holsters before going with an MTAC/Etc for it.

RE: Holsters
Haha no problem, it wasn't really directed at you in particular. I'm carrying an H&K USP Compact .40.

Do you use the standard clips that came with the MTAC? I can't seem to get too much variation in the cant just adjusting the height of the two clips. . . I'll have to keep playing with it.

RE: Holsters
I've got the CTAC (same thing, diff material) and use the standard clips. I got the cant and height adjusted where they're good for me using the standard clips, but I plan to get the C-Clips. I didn't get them when I first got the CTAC because they were a new item for them and were flimsy looking. The new version of them looks just as sturdy as the regular ones and definitely will hold better than the originals.

For adjusting the cant, try attaching the clips to your belt outside your waistband without the holster on them, then holding your pistols grips position the holster the way you want it for height/cant and see which (if any) holes line up front and back. Thats what I ended up doing. If you have someone who can be spare hands for ya, have them slip the screws into the clips and give them a couple turns while you're holding the holster in place.

Good idea, MJ, I was kind of just fumbling with it and doing a bit of guess and test. I'll give that a shot and see if I can't find something more comfortable. Out of curiosity, what clock position do you use, and which holes on the clips? Thanks, as usual Tongue

RE: Holsters
330-4, just behind my right hip so it sits in the depression between hip and ass cheek. I replaced the original leather "wings" for the clips because the originals ones were too flimsy and with my build the front one was just shaped wrong and didn't support the holster at all.

I'm using the topmost hole in each clip, but with the new "wings" I put on it that'll be about useless info. Also keep in mind that I carry a taurus PT140 (3.25" barrel) and if your gun is larger you may want the holster to ride lower. Mines set so the upper edge of the holster is about even with the top edge of my pants (it sticks just slightly above them so I don't have the waistband folding into the holster on reholstering).

RE: Holsters
Finally found a spot around 4:00-4:30 where it's relatively comfortable and pretty well concealed (i think. . . I'm not really looking at it from a third person perspective haha). It bugs me because I have to wear my pants a fair bit higher than normal to reduce printing and get everything where it needs to be, but what can you do. I'll take some pictures when I get around to it and see what you guys think.

If you got a mirror in your house somewhere stand in front of that. Turn this way and that but don't twist your body when looking. Just turn your head as needed to see, you'll get a pretty good idea if its visible or not.
