Member ALERT! PAOC outage/upgrade this weekend

I've already posted an announcement, which is pinned at the top of every forum, but since that doesn't show up on a "New Post" list (and can't be replied to), I wanted to make a regular thread too. Since this thread seems to get the most traffic, I figured I'd drop it in here. See announcement below.

Quote:Some time this weekend, the PaOpenCarry forum will be down. During this outage, a new design of the entire Pa Open Carry site will be put in place, and the site and forums will be moved to new servers which we believe will be more reliable than our current home, and provide flexibility for future growth of the site.

OMG, you guys not only do maintenance late at night when it won't disrupt reading/posting, you actually give a reasonable notice about outages AND plan for growth early rather than waiting till the server(s) is/are overloaded.

**UPDATE**
At this time, it appears that the transition will be on Sunday. During the transition, both the forum and the main site will be offline. The forums will take more time to migrate than the main site will. Anticipated time frames will be posted soon.

Yeah, I'm gonna need some serious sedatives after moving the databases and getting the board back up and running .. these damn things are never easy to move.

The move is going to make things a lot smoother here once it is done .. all the stupid SQL errors and times outs, slow loading times should all go bye bye

How do you know he didnt spend all last night writing perl scripts to automate the process and was killing time while those scripts executed in the background?

Preparation work is now complete. Because of this, we are moving the transition up to Saturday evening. We plan to begin around 5:00 pm. Assuming everything goes flawlessly, it will still take several hours to complete, so don't expect much tomorrow evening.

If you get a "forum closed" message, you're still getting the old server. If it's up and running, you're getting the new board/site. Of course, we'll be sure and post when things are complete.
