Hi all -
I've been a member on these forums for a few months.
I initially found PAOpenCarry when I was Googling for info on obtaining my LTCF after returning to PA and the local range said they required one for me to use my pistol at their place. Before finding this site, I was unaware of the OC movement and I must say that it was a pleasant surprise to see such a polite and responsible group of people.

As I said, I returned to the area this Spring. I had been living overseas for a dozen years. (My mother was sick, so I came back suddenly.) I'd been living in Japan, where private ownership of guns is basically illegal, so my pistol sat in storage.

All that said, I am also a photographer and photojournalist. I've been thinking lately that I might like to do a story on some of you and pitch it to some newspapers and magazines. Unlike a lot of the press OC gets, I'm more interested in showing the positive side of what you all are about—spinning it as another "gun nut" story has no appeal to me and I'd like to keep it as un-political as possible. Basically I'd like to show reasonable people exercising their constitutional rights responsibly, without letting race/sex/political affiliation become dividing factors in how the readers form an opinion about OC.

Hopefully this sounds interesting to a few of you and you might want to help me put together this story. For lack of a car, I'm pretty limited to the Williamsport area, but I have a photo studio here where I'd like to do some portraits and some basic interviews. After that, I'd be interested in photographing some typical scenes from a day of open carry—going to a café, store or restaurant and the interactions you have with people you meet such as passing out the pamphlets that many of you distribute. For obvious reasons, I'd like this to be with people free and clear to legally carry, as well as with people with positive stories and experiences to share.

If you're not in the area and would still like to share your thoughts, you are welcome to contact me via email at oc@mmdc.net or take a look around my website: http://mmdc.net
Thanks,
So when you are 18 you can buy any gun you want that does not require military or police licensing and carry it openly wherever you want except building owned by the government and schools k-12. Now for concealed carry you need to apply for the license and you must be 21 years old. I got a bit confused on the more specific things such as I thought I read that to carry in philadelphia you need an additional permit even if it is open carry? Any clarifications to better help me understand would be greatly appreciated. Also any helpful information you guys have for me would me wonderful.

A Few days ago, I asked for some input about open carry in Pa. vs. Calif. in the Law/Legal forum of this site, entitled "loaded or unloaded" . I got a few responses pointing out the fact that I used the term "clip" when I should have said Magazine. While the first response was okay, the second one was very informative with the visual aid. I noticed the en-bloc, the stripper clip like the ones I have for my SKS, but that paper clip, I recognized right off the bat. I can appreciate using the correct terms and know the difference between a clip and a magazine . And I will make an effort to call it a magazine when I think about it , but if the word clip rolls off my tongue first, I'm not going to lose sleep over it. If you google "Clip or Magazine" you will see a lot of people have discussed this topic before this. The majority of info points out that "magazine" is the correct term in the application of my posting yet it also points out that "clip" is commonly used and accepted. I personally think we should be more concerned about things like what's going on in Chicago and other places, but I would like to hear what others think. Do some of you sometimes say clip ?

The other day I'm at the Dr's office getting my weekly allergy shot. I'm sitting there waiting for the nurse to call me in and when she does another nurse comes out and calls some lady's name. I get up to go with my nurse and almost get run over by this lady! I'm 5'6" tall and I feel like the Jolly Green Giant next to this lady who almost ran me over! This lady is 5' nothing and at least 200 pounds! I step back to let her go by when I see this thing that at first I thought was her purse bounsing off her hip and I mean bounsing! It was a revolver of some kind in a plain leather belt holster and with each step it went horizonal! I have known my nurse for several years now and she is older and quiet funny. I looked at her at the same time she looked at me and she said, " If she needs that thing, I hope to God she can find it!"I'm still laughing! Oh yea she's a leftie like me!!!

This happened a week ago and I didnt want to post it here until my attorney gave me the "OK" to do so. At this time however, I cannot divulge specific details about the officer's names and precise location of this incident.

Let me preface this post by saying that I am a 31 year old professional who was once a TSA at Baltimore/Washington airport with US Customs and DEA clearances.
I have always held LEO's in very high regard since working along side them.

Now onto what happened.

Approximately one week ago, a friend was in a minor car accident was taken to Allegheny general Hospital. After he was discharged, he called me and asked if I would pick him up since his car was towed after the accident.

I was fishing at the time of his call, and packed up my gear and drove directly to the hospital to pick him up.
Afterward, we stopped for gasoline on the way to his house.
My friend is a 28 year old very clean cut , well mannered black male attending grad school at Pitt.

After I pumped my fuel, I got in my vehicle and left the gas station using all my turn signals.

I then noticed a PPD vehicle behind me with his light bar activated.

I pulled over and the officer asked for my license and reg.

I handed it to him and politely asked: "may I ask why I am being pulled over sir?"

The officers reply was "Because thats what I do" and her immediately pulled me out of my vehicle with no explanation and asked me to lean on my bumper.

Keep in mind I have NO warrants, my car is 100% legal and is fully insured.

Other officers arrive on scene and take my friend out of the passenger seat and talk to him.

After having my friend exit the vehicle, they (3 LEO's) immediately begin searching my vehicle.

I make it clear to all LEO's that I NEVER consented to a search and the original officer yelled in my face "You can tell that to the judge! You must watch too much law and order. This isnt Hollywood you know". I then asked him for the second time, why was I pulled over and what was his probable cause or even reasonable suspicion to search my vehicle.
The same officer tells a lain clothes officer to "take him over to the curb , have him sit down and shut his mouth"

The plainclothes officer pats me down and asked me if I "had any contraband on my person or the vehicle" I said no.

As they search my vehicle, they find a loose .40 bullet that was at the bottom of a book bag that I use at the range. He then asks me if I own a firearm, I say yes. He then asked me if it was in the vehicle, I said yes (knowing full well they were about to find it) He opened the truck and saw that I had a cased and UNLOADED Sig 229 with two loaded magazines in a separate case.

He then yelled at me "I asked you if you had any contraband, what the hell do you think a gun is?" I replied, it is a firearm I legally bought, I didn't think that was considered contraband". The rude LEO said "yeah, you got all the answers dont you?"
The polite plain clothes officer who was standing beside me was clearly embarrassed my the rude LEO's behavior.
I told him "I have a Sportsman Firearms Permit and I was just carrying that firearm while fishing.
The nice LEO then smiled and I gave him my SFP and he ran the info over his radio to verify it along with the SN# of my Sig.
Both came back clean.

After the officers talked a bit, they all shrugged and asked me one more time "Do you have any drugs or other weapons in this car" I said "NO".

They told my friend and I that "we were free to leave".

As I sat down in my vehicle, the rude LEO came up to me and said "I will be filing a street incident report that only police officers can see. If you are in this area again, all police will know about this incident here today" I told him "Thats fine with me, I have not broken any laws".
He just turned his back and left.

Folks, I honestly dont know what to make of what happened. I was given NO traffic violation and more importantly NO reason as to why they did this.
One of the many reasons I left Maryland was because of the horrible abuse of power that most (not all) MD LEO's practice there.

I had no idea that in Pittsburgh, a city that I really enjoy living in so far had the same problem.

Now I know that this is probably rare, but irregardless, it was WRONG.

The only reason that I can think of as to why he pulled me over, was because I am white, and my friend in the passenger seat was black.

With my attorneys help, I plan to get some type of explanation. But in the mean time, I would like to hear your thoughts.

In this case SA meaning a revolver. I've OC'd my .45 Colt (SS Ruger Blackhawk) and only had a few eyebrows raised and today I'll be getting a new Ruger SBH (.44 Mag, blued, 4 5/8 bbl) and will holster it with a Bianchi Lawman hip holster. Last time I was OCing my .45 I had to stop by TSC (Tractor Supply Center) and got into some discussions about it with one of the salesmen (how'd it shoot, how heavy was it, etc) and a bit of OC training to a man and woman (their boy, about 8, noticed it first) that owned guns but did not know that OC really was legal (gave them a pamphlet).

Same thing seems to happened when I OC one of my semis or DA revolvers - most people don't ever even notice it - or they notice it but just don't say anything. So far I've not had any major run ins with the local gendarmes.

Let me start by introducing myself.

I'm a 20 year old who moved up from Ohio to attend college in downtown Pittsburgh, and I work for the Allegheny County Adult Probation Office.
I have 15 years of martial arts experience as well.

I recently purchased a RCB expandable baton. I went and got a holster.
I'm having a hard time finding anything about carrying the baton, and the closest I can find is the knife laws. I obviously can't get an LTCF and this isn't a firearm, but a metal stick is nonetheless a visual deterrent and even effective in violent self-defense situation.

Can I carry this thing? I'd hate to have bought something I can't take out.
At most, I'd put it in my book bag or something.

Would you guys be able to help me out?

*edit- I definitely put this in the wrong forum.
